Direct booking audit

Twelve measurements taken from the outside — your website, your Google listing and your Instagram — to see exactly where the bookings you are not taking directly are going. Free, no commitment.

The principle

Everything is visible from the outside

A traveller choosing between your place and the one next door sees nothing beyond what I measure: how fast your page loads, whether your links work, how recent your reviews are, how long you take to answer a direct message.

The audit therefore asks for no access, no password and no internal data. It looks at your business exactly the way a guest does — then compares it with three neighbours along the coast.

Every measurement is dated, numbered and repeatable to the letter. That is what makes it possible, three months later, to run exactly the same survey and see what has moved.

The method

Four pillars, sixteen checks

Each check carries a weight according to how serious it is: blocking, major or secondary. The final score is the sum of the weights of the failed checks — zero is perfect, thirty-one is an emergency.

Capture

Social media and messaging

  • Bio, location and a working link
  • Four story highlights, properly used
  • Prices visible without messaging anyone
  • A direct message answered within fifteen minutes
Combined weight · 11 points
Convert

Website and booking engine

  • A booking button that actually completes
  • Valid certificate and forced redirect
  • Mobile page load under two and a half seconds
  • A price reachable without filling in a form
Combined weight · 11 points
Be found

Local search and social proof

  • A Google listing that is current and correctly categorised
  • Recent reviews, under ninety days old
  • Real pages per language, no translation widget
  • Reviews naming a specific service
Combined weight · 9 points
Keep the margin

The economics of the direct channel

  • An advantage reserved for direct booking
  • Tracking installed, with a booking event
  • The owner knows their direct share
  • Contractual parity respected
Combined weight · 7 points

A word on rate parity

In Morocco, unlike the European Economic Area, parity clauses remain contractually enforceable: publicly displaying a rate lower than the platform's exposes you. The direct advantage therefore has to run through a closed rate — members, returning guests — or through added value. Breakfast costs less than a point of commission.

The dashboard

The twelve indicators

An indicator only enters the audit if it meets three conditions: measurable without any access, repeatable identically in ninety days, and explainable in one sentence. A great many technical metrics fail the third.

The three search queries are fixed once and for all — surf camp Taghazout, hostel Tamraght, co-working Taghazout — so that the next survey is strictly comparable.

Invented figures

The figures in this section are invented for illustration. They describe no real business and are neither a measurement nor a market average. They exist only to show the shape of the output.

The three priority actions

Of the eleven failed checks, three combine high impact with low effort: repair the dead booking link (one hour), publish the rate card in the story highlights (two hours), answer the waiting reviews and restart collecting them (half a day). The rest can wait.

The comparison with three neighbours

The same measurements, taken the same day on three comparable businesses along the coast. This is the part of the audit that changes conversations.

What makes the difference

Three measurements nobody else takes

Measured live

Direct message reply time

I send a real message, during working hours, presenting myself as an interested traveller. I time it. The date and time of the test appear in the audit — a fair test is dated, otherwise it is a trap.

Put in perspective

The comparison with three neighbours

Everything measurable at your place is measurable at your competitors' too. One “you” column and three “neighbours” columns turn an isolated finding into a ranking — and it is the ranking that decides.

Emerging channel

Being cited in AI answers

I put the same three queries to ChatGPT and Perplexity and count how often your business is named. More and more travellers plan their trip this way, and almost no business in the region measures it.

The order of magnitude

What commission is costing you

Three figures only you know. They never leave your browser: nothing is sent, nothing is stored.

18 % — often 15% in the contract, 18 to 22% once visibility programmes are switched on
25 % — a working assumption over twelve months, to be adjusted
Commission paid over a year
94,500 MAD
1,500 nights × 350 MAD × 18%

Recoverable if the shift is achieved
23,625 MAD
The first figure is a finding. The second is a target — it depends on the work done, not on a promise.

Three profiles

The same grid, three diagnoses

These three profiles are built as examples. The scores, amounts and measurements are invented and describe no existing business.

The scope

What the audit includes, and what it does not

Included

  • The sixteen checks, with their weight and status
  • The twelve indicators, dated and time-stamped
  • The comparison with three neighbouring businesses
  • The commission paid over twelve months, calculated
  • The three priority actions, costed in hours
  • A one-page document, delivered within forty-eight hours

Not included

  • Fixing the faults found
  • Rebuilding the site or its booking engine
  • Producing content and visuals
  • Setting up tracking and measurement tools
  • Monthly monitoring of the indicators
  • Ongoing community management

A second survey, ninety days later, repeats the same twelve measurements under the same conditions. That is what tells you whether the work had an effect.
